Designing for Unconventional Screens: What Meeting Planners Need to Know

Remember the early 2000s? That’s when we moved from standard 16:9 screens to what we used to call “super wide.” They were long, narrow, and totally innovative at the time—but most of us weren’t quite sure how

to use them. Cue lots of blue backgrounds with tiny PowerPoint windows floating in the middle. Not exactly awe-inspiring.
Fast forward to today, and we’ve entered the age of LED walls. These high-impact, high-resolution displays give us the freedom to dream big, but they also demand smarter design and planning.
When you’re designing for custom or nontraditional screens, there are a few key considerations every meeting planner should keep in mind:
1. Technical Specs Matter
Not all screens are created equal. Work closely with your production partner to understand:
Pixel count
Screen dimensions
Media server type
These details will impact everything from content formatting to playback quality.
2. Stay On Brand
Creative design should still follow your client’s brand guidelines: colors, fonts, tone, and visual identity. Great design supports the message without straying from brand rules.
3. Focus on the Message
Graphics aren’t just pretty—they should reinforce the theme and amplify key messages.
Case in point: RedHawt recently produced a leadership conference in Switzerland with the theme “Accelerating the Pace of Growth.” Working closely with the client’s branding team, we created dynamic motion graphics that gave a true sense of acceleration, fully aligned with their brand and goals.
Take a look at some of our behind-the-scenes shots.
How’d we do?
